We have to be brave enough to step out and speak out.....

In conversation with Mary Farrelly from thedogknows.ie

Our childhood holds the clues to our greatest work in this lifetime. Often hidden amongst the pain of misunderstandings, we find our greatest gift, the jewels and keys to unlock what will give us the greatest fulfilment in this life. This is exactly what happened to Mary Farrelly of thedogknows.ie.

I want to build beautiful relationships between people and people or people and animals. It doesn’t matter to me.”

Mary Farrelly has a passion for supporting both people and dogs. Combining 35+ years of experience in training & education, she knows that confidence and communication are key. Mary understands what it feels like to be the underdog from personal life experiences but also knows that this can be turned around for all of us whether we walk on four legs or two.

“If we can start with the children, we can create the skills to build a nicer world.

In Mary’s words
“As a shy, quiet child who struggled with being heard in a world that seemed to favour those with the louder voices, there is perhaps little wonder I found myself at an early age relating to the animals around me, those beautiful sentient beings who I could see lived, like me silently in a noisy world.

The comfort and relief that surrounded me when I sat quietly with them. Just simply being accepted for who I was. No criticism, judgment, or cruelty.

It was many years later in 2017 that I was undoubtedly prompted by the universe to act and rekindle my passion for animals, especially with our ‘best friend’ the dog.

And in doing so I was granted a beautiful gift to support children in various ways to build not only their confidence and enhance their communication skills but also provide an opportunity for them to understand more about connecting with their furry friends on a deeper and kinder level, basing their decisions on kindness, trust and understanding (transferable skills to carry with them into adulthood).

I am amazed at the transformations I have observed since then; watching the quieter children grow in confidence, the children needing that little bit more support growing independence, and the children who are too confident or afraid of dogs blossom while developing self-regulation and courage.

Little did I know when I started on this journey that the dog would not only help me but give me a way to help others.

Maybe it's because the dog knows.”

Wild and Free
Wild Woman
Interviews with women who embody their natural, authentic nature. A place for conversations that explore the qualities that make up wild woman - creativity, passion, bravery, integrity, healthy boundaries, deep inner knowing, intuition and a strong sense of self. I believe that reclaiming our wild spirit nature is essential to womens' mental and soul health. Without it we shrivel up and die. I know because it has been my journey since cancer. Nurturing it every day is now my life's work.
