In this podcast episode, Personal Trainer and Nutrition Therapist, Jess Keniston, brings a refreshing perspective to the importance of exercise and movement, which goes far beyond our physical appearance.
“Movement is key. It helps us release stress, deal with our emotions and move forward into the next phase of our lives…” explains Jess, who started her life with a love of ballet while living in America. It was her safe place, a happy place, a form of release and freedom.
When we understand that we are energetic beings and our emotions are energy in motion (e-motion) it makes sense that movement is important for us to function well, on every level.
When we feel something uncomfortable and pull back, we are suppressing the energy of an experience that wants to be released. Movement is life. It is growth and creation. Without it we stagnate and suffer.
Physical movement, as Jess explains, supports stress release and emotional processing as it allows the energy to flow freely as it is meant to. We then feel the benefits in all areas of our life as we are holistic beings - mind, body and spirit. Everything is connected.
Jess is passionate about helping women and young girls in particular, to understand the power of movement, to listen to their bodies, to trust their intuition and live in their power.
“For me, my passion is fitness, encompassing the movement, the rest, the understanding of your body and how it feels, which is holistic and does spill out into all aspects of life.
We all need a safe container at times in our life and Jess definitely is that for her clients.

About Jess
Jessica Keniston is a certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Therapist and owner/operator of Fittsteps Training Studio.
Having grown up in the United States she fell in love with ballet and has had an affinity for movement throughout her life.
After raising a young family and navigating the challenges of having children with disabilities and additional needs, she retrained and qualified as a nutritional therapist, fitness instructor and personal trainer, with certification for both prenatal and postnatal training. This allowed her to marry her passions for coaching and movement into a career that will share the many benefits of movement to women just like her.
In 2016, she set up Fittsteps Training studio in Craughwell, Galway on the west coast of Ireland, hoping to create somewhere that was a little more inviting and convenient for women than your normal gym. Being able to bring classes, coaching and training to so many women has been such a gratifying journey!
More recently she has introduced dance specific coaching to young Irish dancers, and strength and conditioning training to other young athletes and is passionate about empowering our next generation to take control of their physical needs.
Being able to understand our young athletes from a threefold perspective (dancer, mother and coach) positions her as an authority in this field. Meeting each individual where they are and enabling them to reach their own highest potential, she truly gets the best out of each client.
Jessica approaches each program with a practical and accessible style, because she truly understands the demands of today's busy woman, no matter what age or phase.
